Dr. Palmer does not use nasal packing and prefers to do his rhinoplasties using sedation, not general anesthesia. They also have developed an intra-operative protocol that dramatically reduces bleeding and bruising, allowing for faster recovery. By the time the nasal splints are removed, usually on the sixth postoperative day, their patients are looking significantly better than before surgery and able to resume their normal activities. Rhinoplasty Procedure
There are two different types of rhinoplasty procedures. In the open rhinoplasty technique, an external incision is made along the bottom of the nose, and the nasal skin is peeled back. In the closed rhinoplasty technique, the incisions are placed inside the nose, therefore leaving no external scars. After surgery, mild to moderate swelling and bruising are common. We recommend that you keep your head elevated, use cold compresses, and take pain medication as needed to minimize swelling and discomfort. It can take several months for swelling to completely reduce, but most patients will start to see their results within two weeks after their surgical procedure.
