What is a neck lift?
A neck lift, also known as a lower rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that improves the appearance of the jawline and neck by removing loose skin and fat from this area. It also tightens neck muscles. It helps restore a more youthful appearance for anyone noticing visible signs of aging wrought by genetics, gravity, and stress.

Am I a good candidate for a neck lift?
Neck lifts are a good option for anyone who has experienced sagging or drooping in their jaw and neck, but do not yet require a full facelift. If you feel as though your neck does not match your face, a neck lift can help you achieve better harmony between the two. Ideal candidates are non-smokers who are in generally good health.
With neck lift, we can address:
Fatty deposits under the chin
Loose neck skin
Skin relaxation that causes jowls
Fat that contributes to neck sagging
Abnormal contours caused by muscle banding
Laxity of the neck muscles
State-of-the-art-care
Types of neck lifts
The two main types of neck lifts are the cervicoplasty and platysmaplasty, with both modalities being effective but designed to address different concerns. Since Dr Palmer specializes in deep plane face and neck lifting, they are usually combined in the same procedure.
The cervicoplasty neck lift involves removing excess skin and fat in the neck area and is the best option for individuals dealing with excess fat and skin folds around the neck and lower jaw as a result of loss of skin elasticity.
Platymaplasty addresses muscles that may have weakened and separated over time, causing muscle banding and sagging. After tightening the platysma muscle, Dr. Palmer may also remove excess skin.
These surgeries are often performed consecutively with submental liposuction and Renuvion (J Plasma), especially for individuals with a prominent double chin or stubborn fat deposits in the neck region.
Devoted care at every step
What to expect before and during your neck lift procedure
During your pre-operative appointment, Dr. Palmer will finalize your surgical plan and address any questions or concerns you may still have regarding surgery. You will also undergo a medical assessment to ensure you are healthy enough for surgery, which may include bloodwork or an EKG for patients 50 or older.
For less complex cases, Dr. Palmer may choose to use local anesthesia. However, most neck lifts are performed with the use of intravenous anesthesia, which allows patients to be completely asleep for a pain-free surgical experience. This anesthesia technique is more low risk compared to general anesthesia, as patients are able to control their breathing and bodily functions.
Because neck lifts are an outpatient procedure, you will go home following the surgery with a trusted chaperone or family member.

Dr. Palmer’s technique negates the use of drains post-operatively, which helps to speed up the healing process and improve patient comfort. There is generally very little post-operative pain, with patients resuming normal activities within 24 to 48 hours after surgery.
After your neck lift procedure, expect to:
Resume normal activities within 48 hours

Need six months for incision lines to mature
See final results after swelling subsides in four to six weeks

The results of neck lifts can last for ten years or more, with results depending on factors like skin laxity, sun exposure and overall health.
Typically, people undergo neck lift surgery between ages 40–70, when signs of aging like sagging skin, neck bands, or jowls become more pronounced. However, factors such as skin elasticity or genetics may cause more pronounced skin sagging earlier than 40.
Dr. Palmer’s necklift method helps to minimize pain, with most patients experiencing little to no pain after surgery and resuming normal activities within 24 to 48 hours post-operation.
The goal of neck lifts performed by Dr. Palmer is to provide natural-looking results that help restore a youthful appearance to the jawline, chin, and neck region with minimal visible scarring.
