Blepharoplasty in Ft. Lauderdale
Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is the solution for anyone who’s tired of looking tired. Over time, excess skin and puffiness around the eyes can impact not only how you look but also how you feel—even going as far as to negatively impact your vision. Upper and lower eyelid surgery is tailored to restore a youthful appearance while addressing functional concerns. With minimal invasiveness and a relatively quick recovery, blepharoplasty is the easiest way to refresh and re-awaken tired-looking eyes.

What is blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is a procedure designed to enhance the appearance of the eyes by removing excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. This surgery can be purely cosmetic, restoring a youthful and rested appearance to recipients. It can also serve a functional purpose, removing drooping skin that interferes with vision. Depending on your unique needs, Dr. Palmer may choose to target the upper eyelid, lower eyelid, or a combination of the two for optimal results. Some opt to add on a brow lift for a more comprehensive and transformative result.

Am I a good candidate for blepharoplasty?
There is no one-size-fits-all for blepharoplasty. But blepharoplasty may be right for you if sagging eyelids, puffiness, or under-eye bags are impacting your appearance or even your vision. Ideally, candidates will be healthy non-smokers who are seeking natural-looking, rejuvenated results.
With blepharoplasty, we can address:
Drooping upper eyelids
Hooded eyelids
Asymmetrical eyelid appearance
Under eye bags
Monolid or creaseless upper eyelids
Eyelid sagging that affects vision
A tired or aged appearance

Types of blepharoplasty
There are different blepharoplasty techniques, each of which addresses a different concern.
Upper blepharoplasty focuses on the upper eyelids and involves removing excess skin and sometimes fat to enhance vision, appearance, or both. Lower blepharoplasty is a popular treatment that targets stubborn under-eye bags, puffiness, and wrinkles, creating a more rested and youthful appearance. Lower eyelid surgery can often be done with an invisible scar placed on the inside of the eyelid. Sometimes it is necessary to remove skin from the lower eyelids. Lasers are often used in conjunction with eyelid surgery to improve the appearance of the skin around the eyes.
For comprehensive eyelid rejuvenation, Dr. Palmer often performs a combination of upper and lower blepharoplasty.
Devoted care at every step
What to expect before and during your blepharoplasty procedure
Before your blepharoplasty, Dr. Palmer will review your medical history, including any conditions like dry eye, glaucoma, or previous eye surgeries. Lab tests or clearance from your primary doctor may also be used to ensure your candidacy for surgery.
Blepharoplasty can typically be completed in about an hour. Since it is an outpatient procedure, you are free to leave the clinic once complete.
Dr. Palmer generally prefers the use of sedation anesthesia, which is administered intravenously, as it helps to limit pain during the procedure and has a quicker recovery compared to general anesthesia. However, local anesthesia may be used for upper blepharoplasty only, since it’s a less invasive surgery.
Better results. Faster recovery
Blepharoplasty results and recovery process
Most people feel comfortable being in public 10–14 days after blepharoplasty surgery. At this point, most bruising and swelling should have subsided.
After your blepharoplasty procedure, expect to:
Avoid strenuous activity for three to five days
Take a minimum of three days off work
See initial results within one to two weeks
Have barely-visible scarring during early healing which quickly fades over time.

Blepharoplasty FAQ
Blepharoplasty is considered one of the least painful surgical procedures. You will likely experience swelling and mild discomfort for a few days post-surgery that can be alleviated using iced compresses and over-the-counter pain relievers.
The most common age for blepharoplasty surgery is 40 and up. However, anyone over the age of 18 is eligible for eyelid surgery.
Generally, anyone who has received lower blepharoplasty will not need to repeat the procedure. Upper eyelid surgery results last at least 15, up to a lifetime.
Unlike most surgical procedures, it is possible in medically necessary situations for blepharoplasty to be covered by insurance. This is generally only true for upper eyelid surgery on individuals whose vision is impaired by drooping eyelids. This option can be discussed in greater detail with Dr. Palmer and his team during your private consultation.
Blepharoplasty is one of the least invasive surgical procedures you can get. Both in terms of the surgery itself and recovery time post-surgery, blepharoplasty is known for delivering life-changing results with minimal downtime, making it a highly sought-after procedure.
Although there are no guarantees with blepharoplasty, most people are satisfied with their results and report having a youthful, alert and rested appearance after surgery.
