Breast lift in Ft. Lauderdale

A breast lift (mastopexy) is a surgical procedure designed to raise and reshape the breasts to correct sagging, asymmetrical appearances, or nipple ptosis. If loss of skin elasticity, pregnancy, or weight fluctuations have had an undesirable effect on the breasts, a breast lift can restore a more youthful and lifted appearance while improving breast contour and symmetry.

Breast lift overview

What is a breast lift?

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that involves removing excess skin and tissue to provide the breasts with a more lifted appearance. During a breast lift procedure, the areola and nipple are also lifted to a higher position to combat the effects of nipple ptosis—downward facing nipples and nipples that rest in the lower portion of the breast.

Am I a good candidate for breast lift surgery?

Good candidates for a breast lift are women who, due to gravity, aging, pregnancy, or weight fluctuations, are experiencing a sagging of the breasts that affects their body image and self-confidence. • Areola size or shape

Types of breast lifts

The three most popular incision types for breast lift surgery are the peri-areolar or ‘donut’ incision, vertical or ‘lollipop’ incision, and full or ‘anchor’ incision.

The peri-areolar incision is made only around the areola and is used for minimal sagging requiring a subtle lift only. In addition to an incision made around the areola, an additional incision extending down the breast fold is used during the vertical incision technique. It is the most popular incision type and the best choice for noticeable but not extreme sagging.

The full incision technique begins with a circular incision around the areola, followed by a vertical incision down the breast crease and a final incision made along the breast fold. This technique allows for the most reshaping and lifting.

Devoted care at every step

What to expect before and during your breast lift procedure

Prior to surgery, patients have a pre-operative appointment with Dr. Palmer where surgical plans are finalized and any remaining questions are answered. Generally, patients will also need surgical clearance, which may involve bloodwork or other screening. For breast lift procedures on women above 50, Dr. Palmer may also request a mammogram or even an EKG to ensure your heart is healthy and able to withstand surgery.

For breast lift surgery, Dr. Palmer uses sedation anesthesia that is administered intravenously. This allows patients to breathe on their own and control their bodily functions, but remain in a painless, sleep-like state. Compared to general anesthesia, IV sedation is both safer and easier to recover from, with less grogginess experienced upon waking up.

Depending on the complexity of the case, breast lift surgery typically lasts between two to three hours.

Better results. Faster recovery

Breast lift results and recovery process

Because Dr. Palmer does not require postoperative drains to be used, patients generally experience minimal discomfort during recovery. The moderate pain typically subsides within days , with full results being visible anywhere from 3–6 months post-operation.

After your breast lift procedure, expect to:

  • Return to work three to five days after surgery

  • Avoid intense physical activity for two to four weeks

  • Wear a supportive undergarment for up to one month

  • Experience mild swelling, bruising, and soreness

Breast lift FAQ

On average, the results of breast lift surgery lasts between 10–15 years, with factors like weight fluctuations and pregnancy affecting longevity. Some women perform only one breast lift, while others choose to have revisions.

Most women report that there is minimal pain after breast lift surgery, including swelling lasting for three to seven days and slowly declining afterward.

During breast lift surgery, your surgeon will create incisions on your lower breast and around your areola to remove excess skin and breast tissue. Your nipple will also be lifted to improve its position and enhance breast symmetry.

Breast lift surgery is typically considered cosmetic surgery and is therefore not covered by insurance. However, more details regarding possible payment plans can be discussed during your initial consultation.

Immediately after your breast lift surgery, you will have barely noticeable scarring around your nipple, areola, and lower breast tissue. Although initially red, your scars will continue to fade over time until slightly lighter than your natural skin color.

In most cases, the nipple remains attached during breast lift surgery and is simply lifted to a higher position with the surrounding breast tissue. Optionally, some women may choose to have nipple reduction done during the process.
